Everything You Should Know About Building A Custom Home With Design Features That Are Healthy And Sustainable

Construction & Contractors Blog

If you are looking for a new home, sometimes a custom-built home is the best option to give you exactly what you want. Custom home designs will also allow you to choose features that are healthier and sustainable to help keep your family safe and reduce your carbon footprint on the environment. Not to mention that healthy and sustainable home designs can also save you money on the cost of maintenance, repairs, and energy costs. Here are some of the most important things that you will want to know when planning a custom healthy home for your family.

1. Choosing the Right Building Products to Avoid Exposing Your Family to Toxic Materials

Over the years, there have been all sorts of building products made that have toxic materials in them, such as lead paint, asbestos products, and treated lumber products. To ensure your home is healthy, it is important to use natural, non-toxic products as much as possible and avoid chemical treatments and toxic materials.

2. Good Passive Energy Designs That Are Combined with The Latest HVAC Technology for Heating and Cooling

One of the first things that you will want with your new home design is heating and cooling that is efficient and healthy. To start, consider passive heating and cooling designs like a sunroom that can provide natural heating, or ventilation features integrated into the design to help cool your home in summer. In addition, modern energy-efficient HVAC solutions, like heat pumps and geothermal technology, can help complete the efficient heating and cooling design of your healthy custom home.

3. Better Designs That Help Prevent Problems with Water Damage and Exposure to Unhealthy Fungus Growth

The poor designs of older homes often include materials that are prone to water damage being used in the wrong areas. With a healthy custom home design, it is important to choose materials that are more resistant to problems in areas like kitchens, bathrooms, and basements, or areas where moisture is present. It is also important that these homes have good ventilation to allow moisture to escape and prevent problems with water damage and mold.

4. Sustainable Energy and Water Resources to Make Homes More Self-Reliant and Energy-Efficient

The sustainable resource features of healthy custom home designs are also important. These features start with good wiring and lighting designs that include solar, wind and other sustainable energy solutions. In addition, greywater recycling for things like flushing toilets or irrigation and rain collection give your new home sustainable water resources and reduce consumption.

These are some of the things that you will want to know when planning a custom healthy home for your family. If you are ready to start planning your new home with a healthy design, contact custom healthy home builders to begin designing and planning the new home for your family.

Pool House Parties: Building Your Backyard Escape

When I decided to turn my backyard into a pool and spa space, I wanted to have a pool house built. Adding a pool house would give me somewhere for everyone to shower and change without tracking pool water and dirt into the main house. I worked with a local contractor to construct a pool house with an outdoor kitchen, outdoor showers, and full indoor restroom facilities as well as a game room and changing rooms. I created this site to journal the process so that I could hopefully inspire others to do the same. I hope this site takes some of the mystery out of the construction process for you so you can build the backyard structure you've always wanted.
