3 Things To Consider When Painting Your Home

Construction & Contractors Blog

One of the easiest updates to make to your home is a new coat of paint. Painting the interior of your home can bring new life to your space. The right shade can make your home look larger and updated. A fresh coat of paint to the exterior of your home can greatly increase its curb appeal. Painting is one home improvement project that offers a lot of benefits for a fraction of the cost of many other projects. Here are three things to consider when it comes to painting your home.

Do-It-Yourself Versus Professional

One of the benefits of painting is that it's something that can be done as a do-it-yourself project, or you can call in the professionals. If you are looking for savings, doing the work yourself can be your best bet. However, if you are not familiar with painting or in a time crunch, you may want to hire the professionals. Calling in the professionals is also something you may want to consider if your home has high ceilings or is otherwise difficult to paint. It takes a professional crew around 120 hours to paint an average-sized home. Doing it yourself can be far more time consuming.

The Cost

Another thing to consider when it comes to painting your home is the total cost. Costs will vary depending on the size of your home, the paint chosen, and whether you are hiring professional painters. Most homeowners pay between $1,714 and $3,682 to paint their home's exterior. The cost of interior painting can also vary significantly. On average you can expect to pay between $966 and $2,722 for new interior paint in your home. Painting just one room averages between $380 and $790.

Your Return on Investment

Another thing to consider when it comes to residential painting is the return on investment. Your return will vary depending on your home and the local real estate market. Typically for the best return on investment, you will want to choose neutral paint colors that are attractive to potential buyers. If you are planning on selling in the near future, you will want to consider what a buyer would want and what colors highlight your home's features. Typically in most markets, painting your home with neutral colors will give you the best bang for your buck.

If you are considering painting your home, there are a few things that you should know about residential painting. First, while you can save if you paint your home on your own, in many cases it's best to call in the professionals. Costs can vary, but you will typically pay a few thousand to paint your entire home. Return on investment can vary, but neutral colors typically offer the best returns.

Pool House Parties: Building Your Backyard Escape

When I decided to turn my backyard into a pool and spa space, I wanted to have a pool house built. Adding a pool house would give me somewhere for everyone to shower and change without tracking pool water and dirt into the main house. I worked with a local contractor to construct a pool house with an outdoor kitchen, outdoor showers, and full indoor restroom facilities as well as a game room and changing rooms. I created this site to journal the process so that I could hopefully inspire others to do the same. I hope this site takes some of the mystery out of the construction process for you so you can build the backyard structure you've always wanted.
