Guidelines for Building a Custom Home

Construction & Contractors Blog

If you really want to make the most out of home ownership, one of the best steps you can take is to reach out to a custom home builder for service. Building a home gives you the benefit of being the first and only person to live inside of the home and to have it constructed to your exact vision and specifications. If a custom-built home is an investment and life step that you are planning on taking, read below to make the most of these guidelines.

Find the Right Homebuilder to Assist You

In order to get the most out of your custom home, you must do your best to find the project manager and homebuilding company that can assist you. The first step you should take is to find examples of previous work that the builders have done. This can be anything from blueprints and completed project photos to virtual tours or a visit to a property in person. You should touch base with the homebuilder's association in the area to get recommendations and to link up with prospective contractors such as Genuine Home Builders Inc who can get started on your project.

Consider Some Important Additions to Add Personality to Your New Home

Since your custom home can be made into anything that you would like, you should use your imagination to truly make it one of a kind. This is the case when you are dealing with both home additions and stylistic choices. Make sure that you select paint colors and fixtures that will make your home one of a kind and more valuable overall. There are numerous structural additions that will personalize your home, including balconies, finished basement rooms, and beautiful deck or patio spaces. Adding a fixture such as a jacuzzi tub can also be therapeutic and an excellent entertainment piece. The cost of one of these tubs ranges between $600 and $10,000 in most cases.

Be Ready to Fund the Project

Finally, be sure that you set aside enough money to handle your entire project. Get credible valuations on the entire construction plan so that you do not overshoot your mark or leave money on the table. Reach out to a financial institution that can give you the funding that you need to see the project through to the finish. It will probably cost you between approximately $170,000 and $467,000 to have your home built.

Follow these tips so that you can make the most of your custom home project.

Pool House Parties: Building Your Backyard Escape

When I decided to turn my backyard into a pool and spa space, I wanted to have a pool house built. Adding a pool house would give me somewhere for everyone to shower and change without tracking pool water and dirt into the main house. I worked with a local contractor to construct a pool house with an outdoor kitchen, outdoor showers, and full indoor restroom facilities as well as a game room and changing rooms. I created this site to journal the process so that I could hopefully inspire others to do the same. I hope this site takes some of the mystery out of the construction process for you so you can build the backyard structure you've always wanted.
