Tips For Maintaining Your Roof

Construction & Contractors Blog

It is vital to make sure that you are doing everything you can in order to properly maintain your roof. By doing so, you will not have to worry as much about serious structural damage to your home because of a bad roof. Make use of the following maintenance tips.

Check The Metal For Rust

Pipes and flashing will probably be the most common metal parts that you will find on a shingled roof. You will want to inspect your roof for rusting metal about every six months. Should you spot some rust, you will want to quickly tend to it. Purchase a wire brush so you can brush off all of the rust. Once you have done that, you will want to apply a quality primer and then a paint that was manufactured for the purpose of painting metal. By doing this, the metal will be better protected for many more years.

Immediately Tackle Moss Or Algae Problems

It is important to make sure that you are tackling the problem of algae or moss growing on your roof. If you do not do this quickly enough, those things can ruin your roof. In order to get rid of the moss or algae, you will want to purchase and install lead or zinc control strips. By placing those in various places all over your roof, the algae or moss will die out and you will not have to worry about it growing back any time in the near future.

Keep Tree Branches Trimmed Back

You will want to occasionally take a few moments to glance at the trees that are growing close to your home. If you are noticing that there are tree branches starting to hang over onto your roof or the gutters, you will want to have them trimmed back. In order to further protect your roof and to keep yourself safe, you will want to allow a trained tree cutting professional do the job for you.

Quickly Replace Missing Shingles

Whether you notice that there is a missing shingle or two by standing outside and inspecting the roof or you noticed a shingle on the ground, you will want to have it replaced right away. You can purchase a bundle of roofing shingles so you can replace the few that are missing. You should even have some leftover that you can store in your garage in case you need a few more in the future.

Now you just want to make sure that you are finding a quality company to purchase all of your roofing supplies from in order to have the easiest time keeping up with everything.

Pool House Parties: Building Your Backyard Escape

When I decided to turn my backyard into a pool and spa space, I wanted to have a pool house built. Adding a pool house would give me somewhere for everyone to shower and change without tracking pool water and dirt into the main house. I worked with a local contractor to construct a pool house with an outdoor kitchen, outdoor showers, and full indoor restroom facilities as well as a game room and changing rooms. I created this site to journal the process so that I could hopefully inspire others to do the same. I hope this site takes some of the mystery out of the construction process for you so you can build the backyard structure you've always wanted.
